The house itself is a log cabin that was added onto over the years, so it’s a comfortable and funky space. It has a full-sized mattress in a separate bedroom, two single day-beds in semi-private rooms, and a pull out couch for a sleeping option in the living room. There is a large dining room table that fits a crowd, and a grand stone fireplace in the cozy den. There’s a smart tv in the den (no cable). The kitchen has a gas stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and toaster oven, with a washer and dryer in the adjacent pantry. There are lots of dishes, cookware, and spices for you to use, and space for you to store your own items as well. There are also two porches—an enclosed sun porch and a covered back deck looking out onto a big backyard. We use the garage for projects, but there’s room for one car under a covered carport and additional uncovered parking space.
In terms of costs, we’re looking for $1800 per month including utilities (gas, electricity, water, and wifi), but we are open to work trades, so if you are handy, let’s talk! We’re also open to pets as long as they don’t damage the house or disrupt the neighbors. We have some flexibility with dates as well, though we are not looking for short-term vacationers.
This is a wonderful part of the world to spend some time in—a place to feel, as Wendell Berry said, “the peace of wild things.” Everything’s five minutes away in Black Mountain, and it’s a friendly and beautiful town, surrounded by mountains. Asheville is close by, so there are lots of options for culture, healing, and recreation.
